Yesterday, Feb. 12, was not a good day for me. Not within the game but within my real life. At 13:30 Mountain Standard Time I wasn't able to get to a phone call right away. The caller left a voice mail. It was my mom. When I finally got to listen to it it was her letting me know that my grandmother of 91 years old had passed away this morning.
As the years tick by you know that the call is going to come. One of these weeks, one of these days. You expect it but you don't expect it. Ya know?
I'm a pretty tough old bird. I've seen things and have born witness to things that you just don't want to be a part of or know about in my 22 years as a firefighter back home in Pennsylvania. The ability to suppress feelings from tragic events comes naturally. I guess I hit the grieving stages like a drag car hits gears down the track. First I was sad. Within minutes I was mad, nearing mini raging. Then I was antsy with the desire to pace to unwind the hyper-ness that I was feeling.
I soon started calming down and started to be hit with a burning type of pain across my abdomen. I had to get up and lay down for it to subside. Back at the computer it started over again. I'd lay down and it would let up. The pain would eventually start to envelop my left side and radiate down through to my left testicle area as well. Before long I was tossing and turning in pain. KIDNEY STONE!! Was my first thought. I had one on the left side 9 yrs. ago but I don't remember the pain radiating to different areas like this.
Coupled with the fact that two weeks prior to today I had lifted a heavy two wheeled dolly at work twice in one day. Nothing major really. However, two yrs. ago I had a hernia repaired and the tenderness that I experienced post op back then returned after a long period of not having any. I wasn't sure until about 2-3 days ago if I had ruptured another hernia again. Being fairly certain I didn't but now with this new pain and burning across the area in which the surgeon had cut and entered I wasn't sure wtf was happening.
The pain was so intense I began the cold sweats, nausea, and eventually vomiting. Jesus Christ man, I was thinking. What the fuck is going on. First grams passes today and now this.
Eventually the pain subsided and I fell asleep. I was out cold laying across the bed the wrong way. Needless to say I eventually had to lay in bed the right way for the little lady to go to sleep and BAM!!! The pains started all over again. Only this time, it appeared I had blood in the clear mucous from vomiting.
"That's it" she said. You're going to the hospital. After an iv, a CAT Scan, and some anti-inflammatory meds the prognosis was in. There's a 5mm kidney stone on the left still in an area that it can still cause pain before reaching the area that it'll pass. At that size there is a 60-70% chance that it will pass. Or it may take ultrasound to break it up. The other news is that there is a 3mm kidney stone in the right kidney that can drop who knows when.
I drink mostly water exclusively. All I know is when it shits on me, it really shits on me. The pain med is starting to kick in and I'm feeling a little loopy. I'm gonna call this shit day as over.

Been there, done that.
You have my sympathies . . honestly.
Keep up on the water and if they suggest a procedure nicknamed 'The Claw' scream hell no and run/stagger away. Trust me on this one.

You have my condolences, it's never easy to lose a loved one.
